Day 4 of 365: Reminiscing on a Winter Getaway

Alexis EauClaire

You have not lived until you have experienced the south. I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time after the holidays in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to celebrate my grandmothers birthday with my family.

Hilton Head is extremely underrated as it is filled with so many delicious restaurants, bike paths and beautiful beaches.

I have been going there every summer since I was a kid and I would definitely consider it my "home away from home." But this year, I experienced the island in the winter. Although it was a little bit colder, the island still did not disappoint.

While down south, I also decided to take a couple day trips to

some major southern cities. I first ventured to Charleston, South Carolina, and it was breathtaking. The vibrant colors, southern accents and perfect shopping definitely made me feel like I belonged. I could not get enough. It was a bit chilly, so I indulged in some warm tomato soup with a grilled cheese from Eli's Table, and it was to die for.

The next day, we took it a step further down south into Savannah, Georgia. When you first step onto River Street in Savannah, you

feel like you are entering a whole new world! It is so unique with its cobblestone roads, warm pralines and true southern hospitality. While in town, we stopped at Tubby's for lunch where I got a crab cake sandwich. I must say, being from Maryland, I am extremely picky about my crab cakes, but I really did enjoy these! I am so grateful to have experienced some southern culture during the winter months! It was definitely an experience that I will never forget.

xx, Lex
